Mason Mulholland is an artist whose cross disciplinary practice explores the ramifications of history painting in the context of contemporary 21st century art. Drawing from a range of sources including the mediated image and authored imagery, Mulholland challenges the division between abstraction and representation. Prior to completing a BFA at National Art School Mulholland has studied sound and audio engineering as well as apparel design. His final presentation for his graduate degree comprised of large scale paintings and digitally generated images. Strongly informed by his cross media background Mulholland’s practice engages contemporary issues concerning the image and its myriad forms of interpretation.

Travel has shaped Mulholland’s language as he interprets and engages in the cross-cultural dialogue of 21st century art.
